Nestled in the heart of the City of Leduc, the Leduc Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole par-71 championship golf course everyone in the community is proud of. As a public golf course, the LGCC welcomes casual players, dedicated golfers, and members alike with open arms. 

You might have already played the course once or 100 times, but there’s a number of things you may not know about the LGCC. Keep reading to find out about the best after-round eats, pro tips to improve your next game, and more! 

1. It’s a scenic and fair test of golf

Due to the LGCC’s partnership with the City of Leduc, combined with their enhanced winter protection program and the tireless efforts of their staff, the course and all of their greens are in tremendous shape. Offering extensive practice facilities including an all-grass driving range, a short game nook, and a spare par 3, locals and visitors alike can brush up on different aspects of their game before hitting the course itself. 

The course is both a scenic and fair test of golf; good shots are rewarded while bad shots are penalized – the way golf is meant to be played! In fact, a professional golfer has not gone lower than 6 under at the LGCC’s annual Rumble in Leduc Pro Am, and these are the best Pro’s in Alberta. While the front nine features several tree-lined fairways, golfers will encounter more water hazards on the back nine to be wary of. Subtle breaks and slopes exist on all 18 greens to test player’s putting skills.

2. They’ve got tips to improve your next round

James Whitton, CPGA Executive Director of LGCC, gave us his pro tips for the course:
“For the average player, you want to shoot for the Derricks (150-yard markers) off the tee – aim to have your second shot be 150 yards in to the green regardless of the club you pull off the box. Some of the shorter holes will demand a mid to long iron off the tee, while longer ones will demand your driver – just find a way to get to the 150.”

For more advanced players, James recommends bringing your range finders and making sure that you’re flying to the pins. A lot of sneaky false fronts exist on the course, so you will need to hit the yardage. Regardless of your skill level, be sure to enjoy and take advantage of the trueness and speed of the greens. 

3. The best après golf eats are at Hacker’s Grill

Hacker’s Grill serves up the very best for LGCC patrons to enjoy, proudly offering high-quality, locally sourced food and drinks. Featuring an extensive array of craft beers sure to hit the spot after a day on the course, Hacker’s Grill has a partnership with Leduc’s own Rural Routes Brewing Company offering their full lineup. You can’t go wrong with a burger or a sandwich after golf – all of their patties and buns are made in-house. We recommend the Clubhouse Sandwich (Hacker’s Grill smokes the turkey themselves) or the Smoked Gouda Mac N Cheese (even the name sounds delicious). 

4. They are supporting social impact in the Leduc Region

“Growing the game” is a big part of what the LGCC is all about, and they take pride in supporting their community in various ways: 

• The FXG Academy run by Head Pro Chad Feener supports the growth of junior golf, and does amazing work promoting autism awareness 
• Junior golfers can play for free on Monday evenings from 4:00 PM onward 
• City of Leduc residents are able to claim a 10% discount on green fees 
• The LGCC’s annual tournament “Rumble in Leduc” is the largest Pro Am in Western Canada, and is used as a platform to raise funds for the charitable organization Els for Autism Canada. Despite logistical complications due to COVID-19, the event was still able to run in June 2020 and was a big success.
