4 Reasons to Dine at Barney's Pub & Grill
4 Reasons to Dine at Barney’s Pub & Grill
Reason 1: Pour-Your-Own Beer!

Craft beer lovers rejoice … Barney’s Pub & Grill has a literal pour-your-own beer wall!

Yes, you heard that right – a wall filled with delicious Alberta craft beer choices. So you can cruise on up and pour yourself a cold one.

Barney’s Pub & Grill made major waves in the craft industry back in 2017 when they brought in Alberta’s first self-serve beer wall (read the full story from CBC News). It takes sampling craft beers to a whole new level – customers start a tab with a pre-loaded (but not pre-paid) electronic payment card. Then it’s as simple as walking up to the beer wall, finding a brew that meets your fancy, placing your card above that tap, and pouring your own beer! Rinse and repeat (literally).

Need help deciding which brew to try? Digital info screens above each tap highlight where that beer comes from, what’s in it, and how it’s made. The system allows you to pour anywhere from one ounce to 32 ounces in your first sitting before you need to re-load your card, so you can try as many or as few beers as you would like!

Alberta breweries frequently showcased on the beer wall include Grizzly Paw Brewing Company, Village Brewery, Medicine Hat Brewing Co, Blindman Brewing + many more! Brews on tap rotate frequently, so be sure to come back often to sample what’s new and exciting on the wall!

Reason 2: Barney’s Locally-Sourced Food Menu

After a trip (or two) to the beer wall, you’ll need some tasty eats. Lucky for you, Barney’s Pub & Grill has an incredible food menu!

Talented chefs re-interpret pub fare classics with a twist – dishes feature local ingredients! Barney’s suppliers include Morinville Colony, Old School Cheesery, Reclaim Urban Farm, and many more. Here’s a few of our tried-and-true favourites from their food menu:

HAYSTACK SALAD
Artisan greens are mixed with hand-breaded honey sriracha chicken tenders, cherry tomatoes, roasted corn, candied walnuts + corn tortilla strips, then tossed in apple cider ranch. It’s fresh, it’s flavourful, and has just the right amount of heat.

50TH STREET FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH
The country-fried chicken breast is the star of the show here. Hot honey, house slaw, pickles, lettuce, onion, tomatoes, cheddar cheese + Barney’s white BBQ sauce combine to make this so much more than just your average chicken sandwich. Served with choice of fries or salad.

BARNEY’S APPY PLATTER
Because when it comes to appies, more is always better. This platter combines Barney’s best-selling starters into one delicious dish – pork button ribs, wings, nachos, fried pickles, and parmesan fries.

Reason 3: Barney’s Beautiful Patio

Come for the beer wall, stay for the food, and enjoy it all on Barney’s beautiful patio!

If you haven’t made the trip out yet, make sure to experience their patio before the weather cools off. It’s spacious, it’s got a fireplace, and it’s just better to enjoy craft beer outside.

This may not be directly patio-related, but it’s worth it to mention nevertheless … The service at Barney’s is excellent. The staff are always friendly, attentive, and willing to go the extra mile. Looking for the inside scoop on what to eat or drink? Be sure to ask your waiter/waitress.

Reason 4: Barney’s Weekly Specials!

If you’re anything like us, the first question you ask at a restaurant is “what’s on special?”

We won’t give away all their secrets, but here’s a few of Barney’s food & drink specials you should keep in mind …

OFF THE WALL THURSDAYS
You guessed it – brews from the pour-your-own beer wall are on special ($0.36/oz vs. regular $0.41/oz). Wing night is also on Thursdays – 50 cent wings for a min order of 10.

BUTCHER BLOCK BUSTER FRIDAYS
Fridays are THE night to dine at Barney’s! Each week, the chef finds the freshest cuts in town and transforms them into inspired culinary dishes. Past examples include bacon-wrapped filet mignon, St. Louis ribs, London broil flank steak, and more!
