Mark your calendars – Alberta Open Farm Days is coming to the Leduc Region on August 14 + 15! It’s a province-wide open house celebrating Albertan farmers, ranchers, food producers + agri-tourism operators… And we’re lucky to have FIVE regional farms you can visit!

Take part in unique agricultural experiences, see on-farm demonstrations, share in local stories, and purchase locally grown & produced products! We’ve got the inside scoop on all regional participants + what you can expect at each one… Keep reading to learn more!

Sunnyhill Alpacas & Twisted Sisters Mill

Did you know we have an alpaca farm right here in the Leduc Region? Sunnyhill Alpacas & Twisted Sisters Mill raises alpacas for their fibre, and then transforms it into soft, durable and extremely warm yarn!

Make a trip out on August 15 to learn more about alpacas and get an inside look at what an alpaca farm is like… On-farm experiences planned include:
> Yarn-making demonstrations
> Learn how to make your own felted soap (and take it home too!)
> On-site shopping for raw fleece, yarn, roving’s and finished alpaca products
> Selfie opportunities with alpacas as your background!

Rig Hand Distillery

Local favourite Rig Hand Distillery is participating in Alberta Open Farm Days! As the first craft distillery in the greater Edmonton area, they have a rich history of creating locally sourced, produced, and distributed spirits. In fact, their trademark bottle is a replica of the Leduc #1 drilling rig, paying tribute to Alberta’s legacy of agriculture and resource development!

Swing by the distillery on August 14 or 15 for an inside look at how Alberta craft liquor is made… On-site experiences planned include:
> Distillery tours – learn how grains, vegetables and fruits from local farmers are transformed into spirits and beer
> Spirit sampling in Rig Hand’s tasting room
> Shop for your favorite Rig Hand products on-site!

Sunnybrook Hill Orchard

This sour cherry orchard in Leduc County (near Thorsby) is a must-stop Alberta Open Farm Days spot! Sunnybrook Hill Orchard has it all… Picturesque views, tasty fruit + even cherry pie!

Visit the orchard on August 14 or 15 to try their products yourself… On-farm experiences planned include:
> Free tours of the cherry orchard – taste several varieties as you roam!
> Cherry pit machine demonstrations – see how cherry stones are removed in bulk
> Cherry pie + ice cream available for purchase (best served with an orchard view!)

Annelida Organics

This Alberta-born green tech company is opening the doors to their one-of-a-kind facility in Nisku for Alberta Open Farm Days! Annelida Organics specializes in worm castings and vermiculture, using Red Wiggler worms to transform large-scale food wastes and organic matter into all-natural soil supplements.

Book a tour at their facility on August 14 or 15 to learn more about the wonderful world of worm castings… On-site experiences planned include:
> Facility tours – learn about the process of worm casting, packing, and production
> Get your hands dirty (literally) at the Red Wiggler worm bed
> Annelida products and merchandise will be available for purchase

Great and Small Adventure Farm

Last on this list, but certainly not least, is Great and Small Adventure Farm! Re-connect with nature and experience a gospel-themed, family-run farm during Alberta Open Farm Days.

Head to the farm on August 14 or 15 for a wide range of agricultural adventures… On-farm experiences planned include:
> Garden tours – taste & harvest fruit, veggies, and herbs
> Petting zoo – meet & feed small animals
> Greenhouse & flower garden tours – make your own flower bouquet and search for hidden treasures
> Sport range – soft golf, soccer, frisbee, and soft archery
> Picnic park – enjoy a picnic and relax by the pond!
