A History That Shapes Every Visit

Rundle’s story begins in 1847, when Methodist missionary Rev. Robert Terrill Rundle established a mission along Pigeon Lake. Working closely with the Cree communities of the region, Rundle translated hymns and scripture into Cree and supported the local people during a time of significant change. While the original mission operated only briefly, its legacy endured, and in 1956, local visionaries revived the site, creating the Rundle’s Mission Society and building the iconic Memorial Lodge that still welcomes guests today. Today, the site is recognized as an Alberta Historic Site, connecting visitors to nearly two centuries of local history, Indigenous heritage, and pioneer spirit. The new name, Rundle’s: The Meeting Place, reflects the site’s ongoing role as a gathering space for learning, reflection, and celebration.
