Local Leduc Region Money Saving Ideas

September 9, 2022.

🎶 It’s the most wonderful time of the year 🎶…back to school, back to routine, and back to a sense of new beginnings. Stepping into this month, we know there are usually increased  household costs. That’s why we have put together a free, go-to list for some budget-friendly family outings in the Leduc Region.

Create a local Photo Scavenger Hunt

Fun for any age, create a treasure hunt list while you visit the quaint Main Street of Leduc, and capture a selfie. (Think: a brick wall, a park bench, railroad tracks, a storefront window, a green elevator—you get the idea!) You can also do some window shopping while you’re there at the many unique + specialty stores.

Discover the Canadian Energy Museum

At CEM, the future is in dialogue with the past and is dedicated to preserving a spirit of discovery, innovation, and education. Plan to visit the museum the last Thursday of every month for free admission and learn about the history of Leduc #1 oil discovery site.

Explore a Jurassic playground

Not just your average play date! Embrace the last few days of summer with your littles and have some fun at the dinosaur-themed playground (Meadowview Dinosaur Park)—literally millions of years in the making, it was built to commemorate the discovery of a paleontological treasure – a complete hadrosaur skeleton unearthed (right here!) by excavators digging a sewer line. Pack a lunch, channel your inner Paleontologist, and have fun!

Experience StarGazing

Find breathtaking rural dark-sky views in Leduc County scope out a perfect location- like Wizard Lake – to sit under the blanket of stars and experience the sparkle of a Leduc Region sky. Bonus: Stop at the Calmar Bakery to get some donuts on your way to the lake!

Plan a family flick night

As evenings get cooler, what’s better than a cozy movie night? Pack up the kids and head to Leduc Cinemas for cheap Tuesdays! Only $6 admission means you can add some blockbuster fun to a school night AND stay on budget. The local Leduc theatre features all the hottest new films and they are renowned as having THE freshest popcorn.

Get your swim on

If you’re missing summer days swimming in the lake, head to Beaumont Sport and Recreation Centre. They offer daily public swim hours with affordable drop-in rates and children 2 and under are free. The center features a 6-lane pool, a large shallow warm wading pool, waterslide, whirlpool and steam room. So, gather some friends and explore a new, warmer swimming hole!
